Had a talk with an old timer at the local feed store and he made me rethink quenching in water
He said every new smith these days just dunks iron in water and calls it good, but he swore oil gives you way better control over cracks. Has anyone else dropped water for oil after years of doing it one way?

Noticed the same thing with a lot of stuff these days. People reach for the fastest fix instead of the one that actually works best. Sometimes the old ways stick around for a reason.

Why do we always forget that the tried and tested methods exist for a reason? Sometimes the quick fix just ends up costing more time in the long run.
