Furnace floor cracked after 6 months of light use
Everyone says cast iron firepots are indestructible, but mine split right down the middle last Tuesday. I was just doing some small hooks and a few nails, nothing heavy. The crack ran from the air vent to the back wall, letting cold draft kill my fire. I ended up patching it with a piece of scrap steel and some fire clay I had laying around. It held for one more heat but I'm already planning to replace the whole unit. Has anyone else had a firepot fail on them like this, or did I just get a lemon?

Man, that sucks! I had a similar thing happen with a cheap propane burner I bought off Amazon. It held up fine for a few months then just cracked right at the weld seam. Made a real mess all over my patio. I patched it with some JB Weld but that only lasted a few days before the heat warped it. What a pain. Some of these companies are just pumping out junk and hoping nobody notices. Yours sounds like a casting flaw for sure, especially if it went from the vent to the back wall like that.

Did you buy the cheapest one you could find? That kind of crack sounds like a QC issue, not normal wear.
