That librarian's comment made me rethink every twist ending I hated

I was ranting to my local librarian about how much I despised the ending of a popular thriller where the ghost was actually the narrator's split personality. She just shrugged and said, “Maybe you're not mad at the ending, you're mad that it didn't give you what you wanted.” That hit different because she was right. I went back and reread three books I'd slammed on Goodreads, and two of them had endings that actually made sense once I stopped expecting a neat bow. Now I look for whether an ending is honest to the story, not just weird or surprising. Saw a man in Denver talk about how his favorite book has an ending that's just a single sentence with no resolution, and he loves it for that reason. Has anyone else flip-flopped on a book after someone else explained how they read it? What changed your mind?
