Rant: 47 pages into the last chapter and the author just gives up
I finished a thriller last week where the bad guy was built up for 280 pages and then the hero just falls asleep and the book ends. I mean, 47 pages of build up in the final chapter and the resolution is a guy taking a nap. It felt like the author hit a page limit and just quit. Maybe it's just me but I felt robbed. Has anyone else read a book where the ending is so lazy it makes you mad at the paper itself?
Is it really lazy though, or did the author mean something by it? A hero passing out at the end could be the whole point, like the fight cost him everything and sleep is the only win left. Some writers do that on purpose to show the toll instead of a big action scene. Maybe give it a second read before calling it a quit job.
