The way I handled my open adoption agreement at 18 vs. now at 32
Back in 2010 when I placed my son with a family in Portland, I was way too loose with the visit schedule. We said 'as often as we can' and that turned into maybe twice a year. After I moved to Seattle for work in 2016, I realized I needed to put actual dates and locations in writing. Now we have a firm plan for 4 visits a year, plus video calls every 3 months. Has anyone else had to renegotiate their agreement years later?

My buddy tried the same loose agreement with his kid's family and now they barely talk.

Back in 2010 you probably didn't realize how fast life changes. Moving to Seattle definitely shakes things up. 4 visits a year plus video calls sounds way more doable than the old 'as often as we can' plan. Good on you for getting it in writing this time.
