My agency called me at 11pm the night before my daughter's birthday and I told them no
I was in the middle of frosting a cake at my kitchen table in Boise, Idaho at 11pm on a Tuesday last month when my agency coordinator called and told me my daughter's adoptive mom wanted a last minute visit the next morning for her birthday. I had already taken the day off work, bought the 8 inch round cake pan, and told my own mom she could come over for brunch. I said no for the first time in 6 years of this open adoption and I could hear the surprise in the coordinator's voice when she said she'd have to tell the other family. It felt terrible for about 10 minutes, then I called my best friend and she said something that stuck, she said the birth mom is allowed to have a schedule too. Has anyone else set a hard line on last minute visit requests and how did the adoptive parents handle it?
