Spent last month binging dramas and the sibling arcs keep getting more complex

I just finished watching several series that focus on family life over the past few weeks. One thing that stands out is how many of them use flashbacks to show why siblings clash as adults. It's not just about current fights, but digging into childhood moments that shape their relationships. This depth makes the characters feel real and the stories hard to stop watching.

Actually feels like a cheap trick sometimes. They lean so hard on flashbacks to explain every little fight that the present day story gets weak. Like yeah we get it, someone took a toy in 1998, but maybe just write better current reasons for them to argue? It starts to feel lazy, like every adult problem is just mom and dad's fault from twenty years ago. Seen one "traumatic childhood event" reveal, seen them all.

Remember my friend who got really into therapy shows. He started blaming his fear of highway driving on his dad missing a tee-ball game, but honestly the guy just hates merging. Sometimes a bad habit is just a bad habit, not a deep plot point.

Makes every argument feel pre-scripted by childhood.
