Torque wrench calibration drift caught after 200+ carbon builds
I trusted my click-style torque wrench for two seasons until a customer's seatpost clamp cracked at 5 Nm. Checked it against a beam wrench and it was showing 6.2 Nm, that's a 24% overshoot. Now I test both my wrenches every January with a simple bolt fixture, costs me ten minutes and saves a lot of frame warranties. Anyone else found their torque tools drifting faster than the manual says?

Your test setup is solid but the 24% number is a bit off (6.2 vs 5 is actually 24% over, you got that right, my bad). Where people get tripped up is that click wrenches drift in the low range way more than up top. A wrench that's dead on at 40 Nm can be way off at 5 Nm, and seatposts and stem bolts live right down there. So testing at one single setting only tells you part of the story. If you really want to catch it, check it at a few points like 5, 10, and 20 Nm, because the error curve isn't flat.
