TIL that a stuck seatpost on a 1987 Schwinn World Sport can come out with a heat gun and patience
A guy rolled into the shop on a Tuesday with a World Sport he bought at a yard sale for 40 bucks, and the seatpost was frozen solid in the frame, like it had been welded there. I tried the usual stuff first, soaking it with penetrating oil and clamping the post in a vise to twist the frame, but all that did was start to crush the tube. I was ready to tell him the frame was a loss when my boss said to try heat, so I hit the seat tube with a heat gun for about four minutes while a buddy kept steady pressure on the vise. Sure enough, it broke loose with this loud crack, and the post slid right out, though the aluminum was pretty pitted from years of corrosion. The trick was keeping the flame off the paint, so I wrapped a wet rag around the lugs and just kept rotating the gun. Whole thing took maybe 25 minutes, and the guy was so happy he tipped me 20 bucks. What is your go to method for a stuck post when oil and twisting fail?
