Spent 3 years greasing freehub pawls with the wrong stuff until a customer's wheel started skipping
A guy came in with a rear wheel that kept skipping under load and I pulled the freehub expecting worn pawls. The grease inside was so thick it was basically glue and the pawls couldn't snap back fast enough. I had been packing every freehub with the same heavy marine grease for years because that's what the old timer at my first gig in Boise used for everything. Switched to a light oil on that one and it ran silent, then I went back and redid about 6 wheels I'd built for regulars that month. What are you all using in pawl style freehubs these days, light oil or something in between?
