Showerthought: I flipped my chainring bolts greased side out on a customer's bike and it actually ran quieter
Working on a 2019 Trek Domane at my shop in Boise, I noticed the chainring bolts had grease on the heads from my last install. I wiped 4 of them clean, left the other one greasy just to see what happened, and the greasy one seated with way less creak over 30 miles of test riding. Now I'm wondering if I've been overthinking bolt prep my whole career. Anyone else notice that a little grease on the head side actually helps, or am I just hearing things?
