Saw a guy in the bike co-op using a crescent wrench on a carbon frame headset

Was volunteering at the BiciCentro co-op in Denver last Saturday and watched a new guy try to tighten a headset preload with a big crescent wrench on a carbon steerer tube while the owner stood there sipping coffee and not saying a word, anyone else have a 'stop right now' moment with a volunteer?

My buddy's carbon fork blew up just tightening a stem bolt.

Luna_sanchez called it, carbon is basically stressed out dental floss with resin. Your buddy probably looked at that stem bolt wrong and the fork just gave up. At least now he has a sweet new wall trophy to explain to everyone at group rides.
