Rant: The 'just make it work' request that keeps me up at night
Lately, I'm seeing more riders ask for bandaids on serious problems. Had a customer yesterday who insisted I rig a broken derailleur hanger instead of replacing it. It's tough when saving a buck trumps common sense.

Back in my first year wrenching, I probably would have tried that derailleur hack myself (thinking I was being clever and saving someone money). What changed for me was seeing a patched-up hanger fail completely on a steep climb, which sent the whole chain and derailleur into the spokes. The repair bill from that was way, way higher than a new hanger would have been. Now I just show people that cost comparison on my phone, and it usually shuts down the "just make it work" talk pretty fast.
