Can we talk about how I finally stopped reusing cables after 12 years in the shop
For 12 years I saved every used shift cable in a coffee can under my bench, figuring a quick wipe with alcohol made them good enough for a customer's commuter tune-up. Last spring a regular named Dale came back twice in one week because his rear derailleur kept drifting, and when I pulled the cable out it was frayed right inside the housing where I never looked, so I ate the labor and the ride home. Now I toss every cable in the trash the second it comes off a bike, and I want to know if you all are cutting fresh housing too or just me.
