A Tuesday in April that felt like a whole month of repairs

Last week, we had a single day where seven people brought in bikes with the exact same problem: seized seatposts from winter salt. Every one was a different material combo, aluminum in steel, steel in aluminum, even a carbon post in an aluminum frame. I went through almost a full can of penetrating oil and had to use the bench vise for a slow, careful twist on each one. It took from open at 9am until past 6pm to get them all sorted. Has anyone else had a weirdly specific problem just show up in bulk like that?

That's wild, but it makes total sense when you think about it. Everyone rode through the same bad winter weather, then put their bike away wet without a second thought. All that salt just sat there and worked its way into the same exact spot for months. It's like a mean little science experiment the whole town did by accident. You probably saw the results of one specific bad storm from back in January.

My buddy Dave's chain snapped last week, same exact spot. His whole drive train was just orange dust.
