PSA: I just realized I've watched over 50 hours of Myron Mixon's competition footage

I was cleaning up my YouTube history and the number really jumped out at me. It started with just wanting to see his brisket method, but then I got hooked on his whole approach to the Jack Daniel's Invitational. That much time is like a full work week, and it made me see how much subtle stuff you pick up after a while. Has anyone else found themselves going deep on one pitmaster's style like that?

Wait, is watching 50 hours of BBQ videos really that deep? 🏷️ @brianfox you're saying I need to check out Chris Young too? That's another rabbit hole waiting to happen. I mean, I get it, Myron Mixon has that old school swagger and his brisket is legit, but at the end of the day it's just meat and smoke. People act like you need a PhD in pitmasterology or something. If the brisket tastes good and the bark is on point, does it really matter whose method you copied? I'd rather spend that time actually cooking than watching someone else do it.

I did the same thing with Tuffy Stone's chicken technique, it's a real rabbit hole.

Oh, that's a cool technique, but it's actually from Chris Young. Tuffy Stone is a different competition pitmaster. Young's method is all about steaming the chicken first to keep it super moist before you crisp up the skin.
