Watched a buddy at a barber battle in Chicago and completely changed my clipper game

Went to the Midwinter Barber Expo last month and saw this dude from Detroit do a skin fade with zero guidelines. He just freehanded the whole thing and it came out perfect. I tried it on my next client and messed up his crown area bad. You guys got any tips for learning freehand fades without ruining someone's hair?

Was there something specific about his wrist angle or blade placement that stood out to you... like did he use a different grip than usual?
