Watched a barber in Tulsa cut a whole head with a comb he never once picked up
I was waiting on a chair next to him and noticed he kept his clipper guard comb-attached the entire time, tapping the lever instead of swapping guards like I was taught in school. He told me he has been at it 11 years and says switching guards mid-cut is where most guys lose their fade line because your hand shifts on the regrip. Does anyone here actually cut a full taper without taking the guard off, or was this guy just showing off?
My cousin went to barber school in Wichita Falls and his instructor made the whole class do 20 full tapers with the guard staying on, tap the lever open and closed the whole way up. Said it trains your wrist to stay locked so your hand never leaves the head. Took him like 3 months before he could do it without leaving ridges. The regrip thing makes sense too, every time you set the clipper down you come back a little different.
