Swore by my $200 clippers for years then tried a $40 set from a flea market

Picked up some old Wahl clippers at a flea market in Detroit for 40 bucks last weekend just for kicks... they cut cleaner than my fancy ones ever did. Anyone else find a random tool that made you question all your expensive gear?

Is it possible those old clippers were built in a time when things were made to last, unlike so much of what we buy now? I read a piece recently about vintage tools having better metal in the blades because the manufacturing process was different. A buddy of mine restores old barber chairs and he swears by his 1950s Oster clippers over anything new. Maybe your $40 find is like that, just a solid piece of equipment that time forgot.
