My barber growing up knew every neighbor by name.

I mean, he'd chat with folks about their lives while cutting hair. It wasn't just a service, it was part of the block's rhythm. Idk, things feel more separate now.

My neighbor still waters my plants when I'm out of town, but we only talk about it through texts. Makes me wonder if the online part is just the paperwork for the real thing. Feels like we moved the boring meetings to social media but kept the actual friendships offline. Hard to have a backyard barbecue in a group chat.

That plant watering text thread is basically a digital chore chart. Do you ever feel like you're just managing people instead of actually talking to them? I've got a few contacts that only exist for swapping favors or event invites. Makes you wonder what the bare minimum for a real connection is these days.
