Hot take: oiling my shears weekly made them cut worse, not better

I figured out the oil was collecting hair dust and gumming up the pivot on my 7 inch pair, so I switched to wiping them dry and hitting the screw with two drops once a month, and now they glide like new, but has anyone else had oil backfire on their blades?
