My neighbor pointed out my tomato plants were basically drowning because I was watering them every single morning.

I switched to only watering when the top inch of soil feels dry, and now they're actually growing fruit instead of just yellow leaves, anyone else have a watering schedule that works for a sunny balcony?

Honestly that strict schedule sounds like a hassle. My balcony gets blasted with sun all afternoon, so waiting for dry soil would kill them. A deep soak every other morning works Perfectly for me. The key is having pots with really good drainage holes so the extra water can escape. Sometimes the general advice just doesn't fit your specific situation. You gotta watch what the plants are telling you.

My neighbor's tomato plants last summer were on a strict every three day schedule and they got totally fried. I read that the finger test is better than any calendar, you just check the top inch of soil. Drew_grant52 is right about watching the plants, my basil starts to droop a little when it's thirsty. Good drainage is everything though, I lost a rosemary plant to soggy roots once.
