Tried making sourdough starter from scratch, killed it in 3 days
I started my first sourdough starter last Monday using whole wheat flour and filtered water, but by Thursday it smelled like nail polish remover and had mold spots on top. I think I left it too warm in my kitchen near the stove vent. Has anyone else had a starter go bad that fast and managed to save it?

Mine got mold too, kitchen was way too hot and humid.

Did you try moving it to a cooler spot or just toss it?
