Overheard my roommate blame my dirty dishes for HIS pest problem, need a ruling

I walked into the kitchen Tuesday and heard my roommate Dave on the phone telling his mom that my week-old cereal bowls were why we have ants. Except he's the one who leaves pizza boxes stacked by the trash can for 6 days straight. We have two sinks, so I use the left one, he uses the right, and my side is clean. I took a photo of his grease-stained boxes and put it on the fridge with a note saying 'evidence'. He got mad, I got petty, and now the ants are still here. Has anyone else dealt with a roommate who redirects blame like this, or am I actually in the wrong for leaving bowls for 2 days max?
