Rant: My shed's floor joists were totally wrong for my city's freeze-thaw cycle

I built a 10x12 shed in Minneapolis last fall, thinking pressure-treated 2x6s on 16-inch centers were fine. The whole thing shifted almost an inch this spring after the ground thawed. A contractor friend took one look and said, 'You needed a gravel base and piers here, not just a frame on the dirt.' Has anyone else in a cold climate had to redo their shed foundation after the first winter?

You didn't use a gravel base at all?

Actually, I used a thin layer of crushed stone.
