Put up a 10x12 shed last weekend and somehow used 47 metal brackets

I was framing out the roof and kept grabbing these joist hanger brackets from the box, figured maybe 20 or so. After I finished and counted the empties, I had gone through 47 of the things for one small shed roof. Has anyone else lost count of small hardware on a project like that?

That 47 number seems high for a 10x12 shed roof. I built a 12x16 last spring and only used 32 hangers for the whole roof plus the floor joists. Maybe you doubled up on some spots or used them where a simple nail or screw would have worked fine. I see guys at the lumberyard grabbing brackets for every single connection and it drives me a little crazy. A lot of those joints in a small roof don't need metal straps, especially if you're using proper birdsmouth cuts and some good structural screws. Not saying you did it wrong but 47 sounds like overkill for a 120 square foot roof.

Proper birdsmouth cuts and structural screws" still beat hangers every time for a small roof.
