My neighbor said my coop was a 'rat hotel' and I hated that he was right.
He pointed out last month that my feeder was just a basic trough on the ground, spilling feed everywhere. I argued at first, but then I saw a rat scurry out one evening. I switched to a wall-mounted treadle feeder that cost about $85, and the spilled grain problem vanished overnight. Has anyone else had a simple fix that solved a bigger pest issue?

Switched to a galvanized metal trash can with a tight lid for my feed. The plastic one I had was chewed through in a week. Stopped the midnight raccoon raids completely. It was a cheap fix that saved me a ton of headache.

My neighbor's plastic bin got wrecked by a raccoon family last spring. They left a hole the size of a softball and scattered corn all over the driveway. I told them to get a metal can from the hardware store, and it worked like a charm. Those raccoons are crazy determined, but they can't beat galvanized steel.
