Heard a neighbor say 'chickens are just lawn ornaments' and it got me thinking

I was at the hardware store in town last week and overheard a guy telling his friend that backyard chickens are just lawn ornaments that make a mess. It really stuck with me because my six hens do so much more. They eat all our kitchen scraps, give us about four eggs a day total, and their scratching has totally fixed the hard dirt patch by our shed. They're more like little fuzzy farmhands that pay rent in breakfast. Has anyone else had to explain the real value of their flock to someone who just doesn't get it?

Seriously, they're tiny compost machines with benefits.

Right? My girls work harder than most people I know! Dylan_park4 is totally right about them being compost machines, but they're also the best pest control I've ever had.

My friend's flock cleared his whole yard of ticks.
