Free range vs fenced run - which did you see better egg production from?

So I started my flock 8 months ago and had them in a fenced run for the first 6 months. Eggs were pretty consistent, maybe 5-6 a week from 4 hens. Then last month I let them free range in the yard during the day. First 2 weeks saw eggs drop to like 3 a week. But now after a month they're back up to 7-8 a week. I think the change was stress from the new space and then them settling in. Has anyone else seen production jump after switching to free range or did yours stay the same?

Totally get that, mine did the same thing after switching to free range.

Damn, so switching to free range fixed it for you too? How long did it take before you noticed the change? I'm still on the fence about making the switch for mine cause I've heard mixed results from a few people.
