Serious question, has anyone's mom ever tried to redecorate a campsite mid-hike?
She brought throw pillows and a rug for our tent spot on the John Muir Trail. We had to leave them behind when a bear showed up.

Leave anything decorative at the car, it's just extra weight and a bear attractant. Focus on the ten essentials and forget making things cute. That rug probably smelled like home to that bear, lol.

Man, you're totally right about that. Saw a bear rip into a campsite once because someone left out one of those plug-in air fresheners. Thing smelled like fake pine trees and the bear just destroyed their tent trying to get to it. Pretty much cured me of bringing anything with a scent. Some folks just don't get how strong smells are to wildlife. Learned that lesson the hard way without even being my own stuff, lol.
