Vent: I thought the new fiber optic cleaning kits were just overpriced hype

We got a shipment of these fancy kits at the hangar last month, and I rolled my eyes at the $300 price tag. Then we had a persistent fault on a 787's IFE system that kept coming back after standard cleaning. My lead made me use the new kit, and the fault cleared for good. The difference was the inspection scope that shows you the actual end face. Turns out I was leaving micro-scratches with the old method. Has anyone else switched to these kits and seen a drop in repeat faults?

Wish I could say they're a scam. My old boss swore by the cheap wipes until a whole rack went down. That inspection scope is the real game changer.

Been there. Saw a whole server room get wrecked by those bargain bin wipes leaving lint in the fans. Now I keep a few cans of the good stuff for boards and only use the cheap ones on the outside cases. That scope saved my butt last month finding a tiny crack in a coolant line before it blew.
