That one inspector who caught my ground strap slip in Atlanta
That one inspector who caught my ground strap slip in Atlanta had me rethinking my whole routine. Back in March I was finishing a quick turnaround on a CRJ at the Hartsfield hangar. I had swapped an LRU and was closing up the rack when this old inspector, must have been 60, walked over and just stared at the grounding strap. He said "you got the torque right, but the bend radius is pinched on the backside." I hadn't even crossed it off my log yet. He showed me how a 90 degree kick can crack over time from vibration. Repositioned it with a longer lead and it took me 20 extra minutes. Now I check that on every install, cost me nothing but saved a possible intermittent fault. Anyone else got a habit an old-timer drilled into them?
Wait, he could tell the bend radius was pinched just by looking at it? That's insane. Most guys would need a flashlight and a mirror to even see that spot.
