Showerthought: I quit cleaning cannon plugs with Q-tips after 6 months of fighting them
Used to spend about 20 minutes per connector with Q-tips and isopropyl, and half the time I still had gunk in the back pins. Last month a guy on my crew handed me a $9 can of electrical contact cleaner and said just flush it and walk away. I tried it on a nasty JT8D harness in the avionics bay and the whole plug was clean in under 2 minutes. The swabs were actually pushing crud deeper into the socket, which is why my resistance checks kept drifting. I still hit the shell with a brush but the pins just get the spray now. Anyone else switch methods on something they swore by for a long time?

Learned this the hard way on cannon plugs too, the cotton fibers actually break off and bridge the pins if you're not careful. Spray won't fix a pin that's already got lint jammed in it, so check with a light before you trust it.
