Tried adding a hood scoop for looks, messed up my engine temps

Last month I bolted on a cheap universal hood scoop from eBay to my 95 Civic. Thought it would just be cosmetic, but it actually changed how air flows through the engine bay. At highway speeds my temp gauge started creeping up because the scoop was forcing air in the wrong direction. I learned that even cosmetic mods can mess with aerodynamics and cooling. Anyone else run into unintended consequences from adding stuff you thought was harmless?

Put a piece of cardboard behind it temporary to test it out, that's what I did when my cheap ebay roof spoiler messed up my gas mileage on the highway. Took me a week to realize the extra drag was killing my mpgs by like 4-5 miles per gallon. Ended up just taking the whole thing off and going back to stock because I got tired of the wind noise anyway.

Put a blockoff plate behind it and see if that fixes the airflow.
