That cheap turbo timer I bought is now a paperweight

Spent $28 on a turbo timer off eBay to save my WRX after hard pulls, but it kept frying the wiring harness so I had to rip it out in my driveway last week. Has anyone else found these things are just not worth the hassle for a daily driver?
