Talked to an old timer at the car show last Saturday

I was bragging about my turbo setup and he just pointed at his stock 240z and said 'I've been daily driving that since '74 with zero mods.' It hit me that maybe I'm overcomplicating things, chasing parts instead of just enjoying the drive. Anyone else ever have a moment where someone made you feel like you're doing this hobby wrong?

But do you ever catch yourself wondering if that guy's 240z is actually just as reliable because he never pushed it past what it could handle? I mean my turbo setup needs constant tweaking and I'm always watching gauges instead of the road. Isn't half the fun of modding supposed to be making the car more YOU, not just more complicated?

Oh man, this hits way too close to home. My old MR2 was the same way with its intercooler piping - I spent more time watching the boost gauge than actually enjoying the drive. It's like you build this thing to be personal but end up being a mechanic with a steering wheel instead of a driver. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if the stock guys are having more fun just listening to music and feeling the road.
