Am I the only one who changed their mind about lowering springs after a rough day on back roads?
Last Tuesday I drove down Route 9 in upstate New York to visit my brother, and it was one of the worst days I've had in my car. I spent about 3 hours hitting every pothole and frost heave that stretch has to offer. My car has a set of lowering springs I put on two years ago, and I always bragged about the cornering feel. But after that drive, my back was sore and I heard a new clunk from the front strut mount. I pulled off at a gas station in Hudson and checked underneath. The bump stops were completely mashed down and the shocks looked like they were taking all the abuse. I started thinking maybe I should have gone with coilovers instead, so I could adjust the height back up for these terrible roads. Has anyone else switched from lowering springs to something adjustable after a bad trip?

Used to tell everyone lowering springs were the best bang for your buck handling upgrade you could do. Then I did a 6 hour round trip through Vermont back roads last fall and my spine hasn't forgiven me. The car handled like a go kart on smooth pavement but the second I hit a frost heave or a sunken manhole cover the whole setup just rattled my teeth and the suspension sounded like it was going to fall apart. Swapped to a set of adjustable coilovers with reasonable ride height last spring and it's night and day difference for daily driving. Now I can actually drive on real roads without wincing at every bump.
