Talked to an old diesel guy at the parts counter and it changed my mind about oil additives
I was picking up filters at NAPA yesterday and this retired truck mechanic started telling me how he ran the same Cummins for 400k miles with just Rotella and no additives. I've been dumping Lucas in everything for years thinking it was helping. He showed me an oil analysis report from his last engine rebuild and the wear numbers were honestly lower than mine. Has anyone else backed off from using additives after talking to a old timer who kept it simple?
I've been noticing this same thing with cooking recipes lately @john648. You pull up a simple dish online and it's like 25 ingredients plus 3 different types of salt and a special pan you'll never use again. Meanwhile my grandma made perfect roast chicken with just salt, pepper, and butter. More stuff just clutters up the process and makes you feel like you're doing it wrong if you keep it simple.
