Update: My paint gun sputtered clear coat all over a fresh quarter panel

I was finishing a 2018 F-150 in the booth when the gun just started spitting. I had to stop, strip the whole panel with 800 grit, and re-base it. Anyone have a good method for checking fluid tip seals before you start spraying?

Ever think to just spray a little water through the gun onto a paper towel? I do that to check for any wet spots around the tip that show a bad seal before I even touch the clear.

That's a solid tip from @the_hannah, honestly makes a lot of sense. Reminds me of the time I was helping my buddy paint his deck and we skipped the water test, went straight to stain. Ended up with this weird drippy pattern because the tip was totally shot. Had to redo the whole rail. A quick check would've saved us an entire afternoon for sure.
