Dealing with a defensive customer after pointing out a bad DIY fix

Customer secured his bumper with cords, and I pointed out the danger. He wasn't happy. How do you handle similar situations?

Is it really that bad if the cords are holding the bumper on tight? I've seen way worse fixes with zip ties or even wire that held up fine for ages. If the guy got defensive, maybe he just needed to save face and you pointing it out made him feel dumb. Sometimes people do janky stuff but it works okay, lol.

Milalopez has the right idea with facts, but I've found letting them sit with the info for a minute before suggesting a real fix works better.
