Appreciation post: I thought the 'green flash' at sunset was just a camera trick

My buddy in Florida kept sending me pics of it, and I was sure he was just messing with his white balance. Then I saw it myself last week over the lake, a legit bright green spot right as the sun dipped below the horizon. Has anyone else managed to catch this on camera without editing it?

Bet you felt pretty silly calling your buddy a liar. Took me three trips to the coast before I finally saw it myself.

Three trips sounds about right... it's one of those things you have to be lucky to catch. The first time I saw it, the green flash only lasted for maybe half a second before it was gone. Makes you wonder how many people have missed it completely and just think it's a tall tale.
