Went to a small zoo in Ohio and the otter exhibit was just a concrete pit
Took my niece to the Lake Erie Nature Center last Saturday and the otter exhibit was literally just a concrete box with a tiny pool. No plants, no rocks, nothing to simulate a real habitat. Is this common at smaller zoos or did I just catch them on a really bad day?

Hey, do you think they might have just been in the middle of remodeling or something? I've actually been to that place a few times and last year they did have some plants and a little waterfall area for the otters when I brought my nephew. It's definitely not a huge fancy zoo, but I remember them having at least some logs and rocks to climb on. Maybe they were cleaning the main exhibit and had them in a temporary holding space? I'd give them another shot or check their Facebook page, sometimes smaller places post about maintenance updates there.

That concrete pit sounds rough, maybe call ahead and ask about their enrichment plan before visiting places like that.
