The old biography I loved fell apart in my hands today
I was reading a biography of FDR from 1982 I found at a library sale last fall. The binding just gave out while I was turning a page near page 300, and about 20 pages slid out loose. I taped them back in with book tape I had lying around, but it's not pretty. Has anyone else had an old favorite book literally fall apart on them like this?

Did you tape both sides of the spine? That worked for me.

I heard someone once say that if a book hasn't fallen apart, you haven't really read it enough. That FDR biography sounds like it was well loved before you even got it, so it was probably just waiting for the right moment to give out. The tape fix sounds like a good save though, even if it's not pretty. My dad used to repair his old paperbacks with duct tape and they looked awful but he swore it worked better than the clear stuff. Did you get a chance to finish the book before the pages went flying?
