Tripped over a dig trowel at Mesa Verde and broke my favorite brush

Was showing a volunteer how to screen dirt and my foot caught the edge of my trowel, sending me right into a ceramic wash basin. Now I keep all my tools tethered to my belt loops, anyone else do that to avoid disaster?

Ouch! Did the brush survive or is it a total loss now?

Tethering everything to my belt loops saved me after I took a spill at Bandeiler. I use those retractable key reels with the clips, keeps my brush and trowel close without dragging on the ground. Total game changer for not breaking gear when you trip over your own feet.

Heard a park ranger out at Canyonlands once say the same thing about tethering after he watched a guy drop a brand new scraper off a cliff. @williamprice makes a good point about those retractable reels too. I tried using a regular lanyard once and it just swung around and smacked me in the knee every time I bent over. Might have to give those retractable ones a try since they keep things snug against your hip.
