My mistake in identifying a Roman coin last month

I was at a small antiques show in Bath, England and bought what I thought was a simple bronze Roman coin for 15 pounds. Turns out after I got it home and looked closer under a magnifying glass, it was actually a silver-washed denarius from the reign of Trajan, probably worth closer to 150 pounds. Has anyone else had a pleasant surprise like this where a wrong identification worked out in your favor?

I once bought a little wooden box at a flea market in Vermont for 5 dollars, thinking it was just an old jewelry case. When I got it home and pried open the false bottom, there was a small silver thimble from the 1700s tucked inside, probably worth about 200 bucks. Your story reminds me how easy it is to miss something special when you're not looking for it. In my experience, those accidental finds are way more fun than the stuff you actually set out to buy.

Used to think bargains were dead. This changed my mind.

100% agree with that. Finding a hidden silver thimble sounds like a dream.
