DAE notice how many more dead ash trees are coming down in Cincinnati this year?
Honestly I have been doing removals around Hyde Park and Oakley for 12 years and the change since about 2020 is wild. Back then maybe 1 in 10 jobs was a dead ash, now it feels like half my week is EAB kills, I took down 6 in one block on Erie Ave in April alone. The wood gets so brittle up top that I rig way smaller now, like 50 lb pieces max, because stuff just shatters instead of hinging. Anyone else seeing the same thing in their area or is it more of a local spike?
That thing about the wood shattering instead of hinging is so real, I've had tops just explode on me even on small stuff. What's worked for me is cutting way higher on the stump and leaving a thicker hinge, plus a good pull line on anything leaning, seems to keep them from popping. Around my area it's the same story, not just a Cincinnati thing at all.
