The ice maker that fought me for three days straight

Got a call for a Samsung fridge not making ice, figured it was the usual water filter or valve. Spent 45 minutes checking those, all good. Then I found the real issue: a tiny, broken plastic arm inside the ice maker unit itself. The part was only $12, but getting the new one to seat perfectly and trigger the micro switch took me another two hours of fiddling. I must have taken that whole assembly out and put it back in five times. Has anyone else had a simple repair turn into a multi-day project because of one stubborn little piece?

Oh man, do I know that feeling. I once replaced a dishwasher pump that should have taken an hour. The new pump fit fine, but the drain hose clamp just would not seal right. I had water dripping for two days, taking the whole thing out over and over, before I realized the new hose was a millimeter too short. Drove me crazy.

Been there with that exact Samsung arm. The trick is to push the whole ice maker unit forward in its slot before you snap the new one in. If the micro switch isn't clicking, a tiny dab of food-grade grease on the arm's pivot point can help it move freely. Sometimes the new arm is still a bit stiff right out of the box.
