I finally stopped ignoring the thermal fuse on every dryer call

A tech from a shop in Tacoma told me 'you're wasting 15 minutes if you don't check it first, it's the heart of the safety circuit.' Now I test it with my multimeter before anything else. How many of you make that your first step?

Honestly that sounds like a fast way to waste time on most calls. Checking the fuse first only makes sense if the drum isn't turning at all. Half the time it's a broken belt or a bad idler pulley, and you just spent 15 minutes on a part that was fine. Gotta listen to the machine and check the obvious stuff before diving into the safety circuit.

Listen to the machine first, @chen.jade.

My old boss at Appliance Pro used to say the same thing as @chen.jade. He'd get so mad if you went straight for the fuse without even listening for the motor. Tbh, it's just basic troubleshooting. You can tell a lot from the sounds, or lack of sounds, before you even grab a screwdriver. Starting with the safety switch every single time is a rookie move.
