I went to the anime club at the community center in Fort Wayne and walked out a sub fan after 10 years of dubs
I stopped by the anime meetup at the community center on Berry Street two Saturdays ago just to kill a couple hours. A guy named Reggie put on the sub version of a show I had only ever watched dubbed, and hearing the actual voice acting timing changed how the jokes landed for me. There were only about 15 people there but three of them stayed after to argue with me about it and I honestly had fun. Now I am going back through my old favorites with subs on, which is a lot of rewatch hours. Did anyone else flip sides like this, or am I just late to something everybody already knew?
Wait, only 15 people showed up at a community center in Fort Wayne and three of them stayed late just to argue with you about subs vs dubs? That is wild to me, I figured a town that size would barely have an anime scene at all. The timing thing you mentioned is real though, once you hear the original Japanese delivery the dub jokes just land different and you cant unhear it. Ten years is a long time to be on one side, so what show was it that finally flipped you?
