I finally caught why my MAL ratings were all over the place

So I've been rating anime on MyAnimeList for like 3 years now. Last week I looked back at my list and noticed I gave shows like 8s and 9s but then the same score to stuff I barely remembered. The tipping point was when I rated a random filler season the same as Steins;Gate. Turns out I was just rating based on how I felt in the moment instead of actually comparing them to each other. Has anyone else had to go back and redo their whole rating system?

OH MAN, that's EXACTLY what happened to my buddy Kevin! He had this massive list of like 400 anime and he realized he gave a 10 to some forgettable show he watched while drunk just because it made him laugh at the time. Then he looked at his scores for classics like Cowboy Bebop and they were all 7s and 8s. He spent an entire weekend going through every single entry and comparing them side by side. He even made a spreadsheet with categories like story, characters, and rewatch value. Took him forever but now his list actually MEANS something, you know?

I did the same thing with a whole genre.
